Ik neem vrij op 1 juli!

On 1 July, Keti Koti or Dia di Abolishon, we commemorate the abolition of slavery in 1863 in Suriname and the former Antilles and we celebrate freedom. But after almost 150 years, 1 July is still not a national commemoration and holiday in the Netherlands. Support the campaign by Nederland Wordt Beter, The Black Archives, FunX FM, De Goede Zaak, Tony’s Chocolonely and Lush Nederland to change this.

Descartes Centre Summer Colloquium

Where are the crossovers between artistic and scientific knowledges? How can humanities scholarship  help to mediate the gap between them? What is scientific knowledge anyway?

The Descartes Centre at Utrecht University researches topics from the “History and Philosophy of Science”. This is as broad ranging as it sounds and they are even expanding their horizons to investigate how to write “Histories of Knowledge”. The centre will be hosting their Summer Colloquium at Casco on 21 June and they are sending an open invite for people to dialogue and celebrate the end of an academic year.

Transdisciplinarity and broad views of knowledge-making are themes that resonate in our work and that of Descartes Centre. We will welcome and facilitate workshops, performances and dialogues between artistic researchers and academic researchers on what science is, and how/why scientific knowledge is produced. Please join us in the sun for a chat and drinks from 15:30–17:00.

A Farmyard as Public Space – Two artists, an old farm and a new housing estate. These are the ingredients for an instructive practice we did that we consider commoning. Like commons, but as a verb for those who use it together: cooperation in a public space. The Travelling Farm Museum of Forgotten Skills with a farmyard as public space makes one curious about the principles at work. Our Erik Uitenbogaard shares the instructive experiences from this artistic project that Casco Art Institute, together with artists’ collective The Outsiders, have realized in Leidsche Rijn in recent years.
